Coastal Defence Reinforcement Works
- Location: Gt Yarmouth
- Duration: 3 Weeks
- Sector: Civil Engineering
Project Specification
An insight into coastal defence reinforcement works recently completed for Peel Ports in Great Yarmouth.
Following the identification of deterioration within the existing sea defence, T4 Intelligent Infrastructure developed and delivered a bespoke solution to improve resilience against tidal activity and coastal erosion.
Our Solution
The project involved the installation of 150 rock-filled geotextile bags, comprising:
🪨 120 x 4-tonne rock bags
🪨 30 x 2-tonne rock bags
Working within a tidal environment required a flexible approach, with the team adapting working patterns around low-tide windows to safely and efficiently progress the installation works.
Installation was carried out using a combination of a roto telehandler and an excavator fitted with an Elebia EVO 5 automatic lifting hook, enabling the safe and precise placement of the protection units.
The team also completed dry-side excavations adjacent to the existing sheet pile wall before placing 36m³ of rapid-set concrete, alongside the installation of new gantry platforms and sea wall handrailing. Using local suppliers where possible helped support efficient project delivery throughout the works.
