Installation of a PE Gravity Sewer

Project Specification

The existing Victorian brick-built sewer had deteriorated and was in desperate need of upgrading to suit new flows. A previous liner repair proved unsuccessful due to protruding lateral connections within the sewer. T4 therefore developed an alternative solution to provide long-term reinforcement of the existing asset.

Our Solution

🏛️ Working beneath the Royal Opera Arcade
🔧 315mm PE gravity sewer reinforcement
🔥 Butt fusion welding in confined spaces
⚙️ Atlas winch and winch runner pipe installation
🌀 Access via a narrow spiral staircase to the basement work area
✅ Robust long-term solution following liner failure

With all plant, equipment and materials transported through restricted basement access, detailed planning and specialist installation techniques were critical to the successful delivery of the scheme.

The combination of butt fusion welded PE pipework, Atlas winch installation methods and careful logistical planning enabled the team to successfully install the new pipeline within a highly constrained historic environment, delivering a durable solution where previous rehabilitation works had failed.

A fantastic effort from everyone involved and a pleasure to support Lydon Contracting in the successful delivery of this technically challenging infrastructure project in the heart of Central London.
